Liliana Segre è stata nominata dal Presidente Sergio Mattarella senatrice a vita lo scorso 19 gennaio 2018. Nata a Milano, la Segre fu deportata ad Auschwitz il 30 gennaio 1944 con il treno in partenza dal binario 21 della stazione Centrale. Numero di matricola 75190 tatuato sul braccio. Aveva 13 anni.
Nel libro “Sopravvissuta ad Auschwitz. Liliana Segre, fra le ultime testimoni della Shoah”:
«A calci e pugni fummo caricati su un camion e portati alla stazione centrale di Milano. La città era deserta. I milanesi non provarono pietà per noi… […] poi il camion attraversò la città, fino a imboccare il sottopassaggio di via Ferrante Aporti e ci ritrvammo nei sotterranaie della stazione, binario 21. L’operazione di carico e scarico fu violenta e durò un attimo, il treno era già pronto per noi: vagoni merci, vagoni bestiame. Nessuno di noi conosceva quei sotterranei, quel ventre nero della stazione centrale che ora chiediamo diventi un luogo della memoria, perchè migliaia di persone sono partite da quei binari e non hanno fatto ritorno»

The pogroms hardened them. Auschwitz gave birth to the state of lsrael.
Suffering, it seems, is the very crucible of their genius.
So, if the Jews are, as one of their own has said,…
..a people who will not take ”yes” for an answer,…
..let us say ”yes” to them.
They thrive on opposition. Let us cease to oppose them.
The only way to annihilate this insidious people once and for all…
..is to open our arms, invite them into our homes…
..and embrace them.
Only then will they vanish into assimilation, normality and love.
But we cannot pretend. The Jew is nothing if not clever.
He will see through hypocrisy and condescension.
To destroy him, we must love him sincerely.
