Christo è tornato in Italia, 40 anni dopo il suo ultimo progetto nel nostro Paese. Apre al pubblico oggi, 18 giugno, The Floating Piers, il progetto che trasforma l’aspetto del Lago d’Iseo per 16 giorni. La superficie dello specchio d’acqua è stata coperta da 70 mila metri quadri di tessuto giallo che, grazie a dei pontili galleggianti, ha creato  una sorta di “pas­seg­giata sulle acque” lunga 3 km.  Nei giorni scorsi si è parlato di un’attesa di oltre un milione di visitatori. Si vedrà. Quel che è sicuro è che il ponte può contenere fino a 11 mila persone in contemporanea.

«Come tutti i nostri progetti, Floating Piers è assolutamente gratuito e accessibile 24 ore al giorno, tempo permettendo» ha dichiarato Christo «Non ci sono biglietti, aperture, non ci sono riserve e non ci sono proprietari. I Floating Piers sono un prolungamento della strada e appartengono a tutti».

Christo e Germano Celant, curatore del progetto, hanno rassicurato l’opinione pubblica che tutti i componenti rispettano l’impatto ambientale, perchè verranno rimossi dopo il periodo espositivo e dismessi mediante un processo industriale di riciclaggio. Il progetto consiste in un collegamento, costituito da un sistema modulare di pontili galleggianti (larghi 16 metri e alti 50 centimetri), che darà la possibilità ai pedoni di fluttuare sul lago “facendosi cullare proprio dal movimento delle onde”.
